Tiananmen Square: Tiananmen Square is the largest city square in the world, at 440,000 square meters, and can hold about one million people for public celebration or gatherings. In the square tourists can climb the Tiananmen Rostrum, attend the national flag raising ceremony every morning at sunrise, visit the National Museum of China, and go to the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong, in which one will see the body of the great Chinese leader.
Forbidden City: Forbidden City also known as Palace Museum was home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The construction of the grand palace started in the fourth year of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty (1406) and ended in 1420. In the ancient time, the emperor claimed to be the son of the heaven and therefore their supreme power was conferred upon them from the heaven. Their residence on the earth was built as a replica of the Purple Palace where the God lived in the Heaven. Such divine place was certain forbidden for the ordinary people and it is why the Forbidden City is so called. The museum is a real treasures house of Chinese cultural and historical relics, recognized as one of the most important five palaces in the world.
Treasure House: Treasure house has undergone 4 time renovations, the present one takes up almost 220 square metres, more than 440 treasures on display belonged to Qing dynasty royalty, half of which have not never been on display in the old one. It's worthy of visiting.
Hutong Tours: The Beijing Hutong (old lane) areas have a very special and important position in the rich history and culture of Beijing. The alleys give a wonderful glimpse into the world of yesterday in Beijing. While visiting the Beijing Hutong, you can appreciate the dramatic changes that the rest of Beijing has undergone. The Beijing Hutong is made up of lanes or alleys formed by lines of pre-modern siheyuan, four-sided compounds with houses around a courtyard.
- Jinshanling Great Wall -
- Simatai Great WallYou will discover Great Wall and start Hiking from Jinshanling Great Wall to Simatai Great Wall for your whole day excursion.
Jinshanling Great Wall: The Jinshanling Great Wall was initially built from 1368 to 1389 in the Ming Dynasty, and in 1567 or 1570 rebuilding of the Wall was mainly directed by General Qi Jiguang. Poems and tablet writings can be found on the Jinshanling Great Wall left from the time Qi Jiguang directed building of this section of the Great Wall.
Simatai Great Wall: Known for its dangerous, steep, and astonishing position, the 19 kilometers long Simatai Great Wall is separated into two parts by a valley which are known as the east and the west parts. The west part appears gentle with 20 well-preserved watchtowers dotted along the wall. In comparison, the east part is steep and cliff like. 15 watchtowers are scattered on the 1, 000 meters high peaks. The main attractions include the Watching Beijing Tower, Fairy Tower, Heavenly Ladder, and Sky Bridge. From the 986 meters high Watching Beijing Tower, one can view the famous scenic wonder of "White Snow on the Great Wall" in winter as well as the beautiful skyline of the city of Beijing in the south. The wall bricks here carry the date on which they were made and the code of the armies that made them.
Today you will explore Chuandixia Village for your whole day tour.
Chuandixia Village: Chuandixia Village is situated in a remote, steeply-sided valley 90 kilometers west from Beijing. With the history of more than 500 years, Chuandixia Village is considered as a "pearl" of the traditional village of China and has great value in terms historical antique, architecture, art and social study. Escorted by your guide, you can drop in one or two homes to get to know their houses and local people's daily life. You also can visit the temple of the village, listen to the old stories from the aged people or go hiking on the mountains nearby.
Today you are going to visit Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, and Xiushui Street (Silk Market)
Temple of Heaven: The Temple of Heaven is seen as the most holy of Beijing's imperial temples. It has been described as "a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design". The Temple of Heaven was where the emperor came every winter solstice to worship Heaven and to solemnly pray for a good harvest. Since his rule was legitimized by a perceived mandate from Heaven, a bad harvest could be interpreted as his fall from Heaven's favor and threaten the stability of his reign. So, it was not without a measure of self-interest that the emperor fervently prayed for a very good crop.
Summer Palace: The Summer Palace, in the Haidian District, northwest of central Beijing, is said to be the best preserved imperial garden in the world, and the largest of its kind still in existence in modern China. It's hardly surprising that, during the hot Beijing summers, the Imperial Family preferred the beautiful gardens and airy pavilions of the Summer Palace to the walled-in Forbidden City. Dowager Empress Cixi took up permanent residence here for a time, giving rise to some wonderful tales of extravagance and excess
Silk Street: Silk Street is a shopping center in Beijing that accommodates over 1,700 retail vendors, notorious among international tourists for their wide selection of counterfeit designer brand apparels. Many of the stalls have, over the years, gained local and international reputation for selling counterfeit luxury designer brands at relatively-low prices. Some have carried on this trademark despite growing pressures from the management, the Chinese government and famous brand-name companies.
