- LhasaWe will meet you at Chengdu airport in the morning, then fly to Lhasa.
Lhasa, capital of the Tibet autonomous region in China, also serves as the center for Tibetan politics, economy, culture, and religion and transportation hub of the region as well. Lhasa, which means "Holy Land" in Tibetan language, has been one of the most featured and dreamt-about cities in the world.
Today, you will visit Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street.
The awe-inspiring Potala Palace perched high above much of Lhasa, is definitely your good choice. The palace is a complex of political and religious function, which consists of the Red Palace, the White Palace and some attached buildings.
Jokhang Temple:Jokhong Monastery, built in 647 as the earliest wood-masonry structure in Tibet, is dedicated to a statue of Sakyamuni. It is also in the possession of a collection of cultural relics dating back to the Tang, which include statues of Songtsan Gambo and Princess Wencheng. Tang architectural elements are palpable in this monastery, a splendid four-floor building facing west under a gilded rooftop.
Then you will spend a whole afternoon exploring Barkhor Street. The markets in Lhasa are on a scale quite unlike anything else you have seen. You can buy anything Tibet-related, from sacks of incense, chunks of yak butter to monk outfits. When walking along the Barkhor Street , you need to follow the clockwise direction. You see many Tibetan pilgrims in town taking part in the various koras (pilgrimage circuits): the Nangkor, Barkor, Lingkor and Potala.
Visit Norbulingka:Norbulingka meaning 'Treasure Park' in Tibetan, both reflects the ethnical and religious features of the Tibetan people and embodies the architecture style of inland China. It is dotted with many palaces built by different Dalai Lamas who came after the 7th Dalai Lama and spend time here in the summers. Each Palace here is divided into three sections. The first palace was Kelsang Potrang which is a perfect example of yellow hat architecture. Built by the 7th Dalai Lama, this is 3 floor building which has bedrooms, reading rooms, worship halls and a sanctuary as well.
- ChengduToday we will take train T24 at 9:05 back to Chengdu.
When the train drives on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, you can see the rare species of plants and animals of Kekexili in this area. If you are lucky enough, Tibetan antelopes can be seen running along the railway. And we will drive across the part of Mt.Tanggula which is the highest place along the Qinghai-Tibet railway with about 5,072 meters' altitude. Then we are going to the highland meadow which covers a large area for pasture. And Namtso lake which situates between Amdo and Nagchu is the next attraction. Our eyes can enjoy a feast with the crystal blue water. But due to the long time journey by train we must overnight on the train.
- ChengduWe are still on the way back to Chengdu. However the scenery is different now. Along the way we can have look of Sichuan Basin and the Yellow Earth plateau.
