General Introduction

Jinan is a historical city with a history of some 2000 years and is famed for its numerous relics. It is the cradle of the Longshan Relics Culture, the reputed prehistoric culture of China and is found in Longshan Town of Jinan, hence the name.

History

Jinan is a modern city with 2600 years of history the ancient city, but also first batch of historical and cultural city. It is named as the "Chinese Excellent Tourism City "in 1999 by the National Tourism Administration .There are abundant tourism resources in this city.

Location

Jinan, Shandong Province is located in the Midwest, South Pillow Mount Tai, to the north of the Yellow River. Jinan City is cold in winter and hot in summer while in spring the weather often becomes mainly dry with some rain. The autumn is the best season in which to visit Jinan. However, spring is really the preferred time to visit the Baotu Spring and you can see the wonderful snow scape of Daming Lake in winter. Jinan International airport is situated 40 km northeast of the city. In addition to 42 domestic routes, the Jinan International Airport has international routes to Jizhou Island, Bangkok and Moscow. The airline shuttle bus runs between the airport and Jinan downtown area (6am-5pm). There are 2 train stations in Jinan. The biggest is Jinan Station.

Tourist Feature

Jinan is the home of Lu Cai (Shandong cuisine), a popular cuisine of China. The unique tourist souvenirs available in Jinan include Ejiao, Black Pottery, Lu Embroidery and Wooden-Fish wares. Jinan is the right place to see some very typical festivals including The Lantern Festival in the Baotu Spring Park, the Lotus Festival in the Daming Lake Park and the Double-Nine Festival on the Thousand-Buddha Mountain. In the area of Jinan, you will find far more than you would expect, the ancient Great Wall of the Qi State, the colored sculptures of the Song Dynasty in the Lingyan Temple and so. Some people say Jinan's glamour is not merely its enticing natural beauty, but more the warmth of the Jinan people. Jinan is a venue for products from the whole province. Quancheng Lu, Daguan Yuan, Renmin Shangchang and the South Gate areas are the four big commercial districts of the city. Yingxiong Shan Culture Market, located at 46, Ma'an Shan Lu, Shizhong District, is a large market selling books, antiques, calligraphy works and painting, root carvings and so on. Jinan's nightlife is made up of four basic types. They are the Square Nightlife, based around Quancheng Square, Food Nightlife, focused on the roadside stands and outdoor BBQs, Shopping Nightlife, based in department stores, supermarkets and the markets, and Recreational Nightlife in clubs and dance halls. Jinan people celebrate all national festivals, as well as some large festivals that are specific to Jinan, such as the International Martial Arts Festival and the Temple Fair on Qianfo Mountain.
